The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is extending its holiday break due to COVID-19.
The move comes amid recent increases in COVID-19 cases across eastern Canada.
Action was set to resume on Dec. 28, but the league announced Tuesday that it has been pushed back to Jan. 7.
“The health and safety of all players and staff members remains our top priority. Therefore, it is appropriate under the current circumstances to remain cautious and to extend the Holiday break,” the league said in a statement.
Players are expected to report back to their clubs on Jan. 3. The league said it is working on updated protocols “which will include preventive testing prior to the arrival of players and staff within the team environment.”
Postponed games will be rescheduled at a later date.
