New Brunswick reported 257 new cases of COVID-19 today which is another daily record.
Public Health has confirmed someone in their 50s in Zone 2 (Saint John region) and someone in their 80s in Zone 4 (Edmundston region) have died as a result of COVID-19.
Since Wednesday, 98 people have recovered from the virus and the active case count is now 1563.
Breakdown of new cases
- Zone 1 (Moncton region) has 39 cases
- Zone 2 (Saint John region) has 139 cases
- Zone 3 (Fredericton region) has 49 cases
- Zone 4 (Edmundston region) has 17 cases
- Zone 5 (Campbellton region) has two
- Zone 6 (Bathurst region) has five
- Zone 7 (Miramichi region) has six
In hospital
Currently, 16 people are in intensive care and another 23 are in hospital for a total of 39 people hospitalized.
Of those, 25 are over the age of 60, 12 people are on a ventilator and no one under 19 is hospitalized.
To date, 102 cases have been confirmed to be the Omicron variant, however none have been hospitalized.
Five of the 39 people hospitalized were initially admitted for other reasons and contracted COVID-19 due to outbreaks at hospitals in Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton and Miramichi.
Most of these patients are exhibiting mild to moderate symptoms.
Public Health says the rate of people hospitalized and in ICU, as well as new cases, continues to mostly impact the unvaccinated.

Vaccinations
Public Health reported today that 82.8 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Meantime, 89.8 per cent have received their first dose and 16.8 per cent have received a booster shot.
