New Brunswick has entered a modified Level 2 of the Winter Action Plan.
As of 11:59 p.m. Monday, a series of new measures and restrictions were put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.
At a news conference on Dec. 21, Premier Blaine Higgs said this would be necessary given the emergence of the Omicron variant and the large gatherings often held over the holidays.
“I would say anything is possible in the coming days given what we’re seeing and to what level the Omicron [variant] actually spreads,” Higgs said, responding to questions from reporters.
New measures include:
- Households must limit their contacts to a maximum of 10 consistent contacts
- Indoor and outdoor informal gatherings are permitted with household plus Steady 10
- Venues cannot have events with more than 150 people or 50% capacity (whichever is less)
- At restaurants, patrons must show proof of full vaccination or medical exemption, and the capacity is limited to 50 per cent
- Businesses can open with 50 per cent capacity
- Gyms, spas, salons, and entertainment centres can open with proof of full vaccination and 50 per cent capacity
- Faith venues are not allowed choirs, one soloist is permitted a minimum of four metres from the congregation, and capacity is limited to 50 per cent
- Professional sports leagues practices are only allowed for a single team at a time, and no games are allowed
