After action was pushed back to Jan. 7, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) will delay games even further.
The league announced on Thursday it will extend its holiday break until Jan. 14.
It comes as Eastern Canada continues to deal with rising COVID-19 cases.
Players will now report back to their teams no later than January 14.
The QMJHL favours this date for three main reasons:
- Create a safe environment for players and staff
- Support and facilitate their return to school
- Allow them to practice and work out
In a release, the league mentioned updated protocols will include a series of preventive testing before the arrival of players and staff within the team environment.
As well, additional measures will be announced in the upcoming days.
The regular-season schedule will resume the week of Jan. 17, and postponed games will be rescheduled at a later date.
