There’s a fear the education industry will lose even more teachers in the ongoing pandemic.
President of the New Brunswick Teachers Association Connie Keating says it has been difficult, “The pandemic has really been difficult on all of us. Everybody loses in these situations. Really, how do you attract and retain new professionals under the constraints and working conditions that we’ve had?”
She says this is an issue that needs to be acknowledged and addressed by government.
Keating adds that teachers have been under additional stress in the classrooms over the past two years, “Contact tracing, they’re handing out kits. They’re doing a lot of the roles that we would see Public health doing. So that’s been added to their plate, in addition to working with students who have a significant amount of mental health challenges.”
Students will begin at-home learning again on January 11th, due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
