Officials behind a new mixed-use development in Sussex believe it will be a great fit for the town.
Construction has already begun on the new four-storey building along the west end of Main Street.
Once completed, it will house a medical clinic on the ground floor and 37 apartments on the top three floors.
John de Winter is the CEO of Amsterdam Inn & Suites, one of the investors in the $8-million project.
He said the building will be located near Kingswood University and the Nutrien Civic Centre, along with retail and shopping areas.
“This is one of the prime pieces of land that was available so we were quite fortunate to get that location so we think it will be a great spot for this building,” de Winter said in a recent interview.
It is believed the four-storey building will be one of the larger ones in the town of more than 4,200 people, said de Winter.
He said the “upper brand” apartment building will include an elevator, a common room, and security features such as facial recognition.
Residents will also have access to 24/7 desk service provided by Amsterdam Inn & Suites, located just up the street.
Construction has only just begun but de Winter said they have already had a lot of interest and inquiries.
“We’ve had individuals that we’ve met with who are very anxious to secure an apartment unit in the building. This early in the construction phase, we’re pretty happy with the response that we’ve had,” he said.
The building will be made up of both one- and two-bedroom apartments. De Winter said rent prices will vary depending on what people are looking for.
“There’s going to be different rates depending on the size and then square footage and whether there’s two bathrooms or one bathroom, things of that nature,” he said.
Construction is expected to be completed by October of this year.
