New Brunswick is moving to Level 3 of the COVID-19 Winter Action Plan.
After the announcment, The province’s Green Party Leader mentioned the decision was a week late.
“On Monday, we were getting very concerned, and called for the Premier to move the province to level three, but he’s done it now, he did it reluctantly, but public health and the health authority helped sway, which is the way it should be.”
Coon mentioned during the media conference there also needs to be more priority to increase the rate of vaccinations in children.
“As well, increasing the rate of booster shots for everyone else because that’s essential.”
After hearing the Premier announce an enhanced Phase 3 of the New Brunswick Small Business Recovery Grant Program, Coon brought up it also needs to be flexible and ensure people who are hurting.
“It needs to apply to individuals who will lose their income over the next couple of weeks as well, but the Premier didn’t mention that.”
Under Level 3, retail businesses are allowed to remain open with 50 per cent capacity, Coon added he hopes that decision was based on a risk assessment.
“I hope that decision was based on an actual risk assessment on how the virus is spreading, and where the greatest risks are of exposure and contracting disease.”
