New Brunswick Public Health announced three deaths linked to COVID-19, and 113 active hospitalizations on Tuesday.
Those in hospital include 59 people who were admitted for reasons other than COVID-19. In addition, there are 15 New Brunswickers in an ICU with the virus.
Three individuals in the Bathurst region who had tested positive for COVID-19 have died. This includes a person in their 50s and two people in the 90 and over age group.
PCR testing confirmed 330 new cases on Tuesday, of which 110 are in the Moncton region and 67 are in the Saint John zone.
Another 1,623 cases have been identified by rapid tests and reported to the province.
Public Health reported 673 recoveries, which lowers the active caseload to 4.568.
Need for volunteers
An urgent call for volunteers to aid with the pandemic response was issued by the Government of New Brunswick on Tuesday.
“As predicted, the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is causing increased hospitalizations and staff absences, which is putting pressure on all aspects of our healthcare system,” said Health Minister Dorothy Shephard.
“We are asking anyone who can assist with clinical and non-clinical work to come forward.”
This comes as 347 healthcare workers who have tested positive for the virus are isolating.
The clinical work includes administering vaccinations and COVID-19 testing, patient services and personal support work.
Non-clinical work includes clerical support, office administration, logistical support, data entry, customer service, and food preparation and delivery.
Those interested in volunteering can complete an online form.
