New Brunswick’s Green party leader says the lockdown has prompted more concerns over mental health.
Green Party leader and Fredericton MLA David Coon says as the lockdown takes hold, there is a stark reminder that the provincial government has been slow to implement its commitments from the mental health and addictions strategy it announced last year.
Coon says the government committed last February to opening 13 mental health clinics around the province, along with adding addiction and mental health resources to increase demand for services resulting from COVID-19.
He also says it has been over two years since the Legislature unanimously adopted a motion to create a mental health advocate but that has yet to happen.
In a news release, the leader also points out it has almost been a year since Lexi Daken’s suicide exposed holes in emergency mental health services, but most of the recommendations have not been implemented.
