Many Canadians are spending more time outdoors according to the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC).
A national public opinion poll conducted through Ipsos Public Affairs found 82 per cent of respondents are spending time in nature with 37 per cent spending more time since the pandemic began.
Program director with NCC in Nova Scotia, Jaimee Morozoff, discusses why people are turning to nature.
“When you haven’t been able to travel as much or see people as much, being outdoors has absolutely been a way to reduce stress and feel better.”
The survey is conducted yearly. Morozoff says 2,000 people were surveyed.
They also found women, young people and young families were most likely to spend more time in nature.
Morozoff encourages people to get outside as much as they can.
“You don’t have to be out for a long time. Go for a hike, go for a skate or a ski, go sit on our back step and listen to the birds.”
