Three more New Brunswickers who had COVID-19 have died, Public Health announced Monday.
The latest deaths include a person 90 and over in the Moncton region, a person in their 80s in the Saint John region, and a person in their 70s in the Edmundston region.
They bring the number of COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began to 212, according to the province COVID-19 dashboard.
Public Health said 131 people are now hospitalized with COVID-19, an increase of five from Sunday.
The number of patients in one of the province’s intensive care units has also climbed by two to 12. Four people are on a ventilator.
Seventy-four of those currently in the hosptial were admitted for other reasons, according to Public Health.
Of those in the hospital, 101 are 60 or over, and three are under the age of 20.
A total of 469 heatlh-care workers are currently isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.
That includes 181 employees within Horizon Health, 196 within Vitalité Health, and 92 within Extra-Mural/Ambulance New Brunswick.
Public Health also reported 381 new cases and 285 more recoveries, based on PCR testing. The number of known active cases now stands at 5,349.
There were also 659 additional positive rapid test results submitted through the province’s online portal.
The new PCR-confirmed cases include 102 in the Moncton region, 86 in the Saint John area, 77 in the Fredericton health zone, 62 in the Edmundston region, 32 in the Bathurst area, 16 in the Miramichi health zone, and six in the Campbellton region.
The rate of new PCR cases is 40.2 per 100,000 for those considered “protected” — having received their second dose within six months and/or having received their booster dose — and 66 per 100,000 for those with partial or no protection.
Of those currently in hospital, the rate is 22.9 per 100,000 for those considered protected and 72.9 per 100,000 for those with partial or no protection.
Among those in the ICU, the rates are 5.6 per 100,000 for those considered protected and 76.6 per 100,000 for those with partial or no protection.
As of Monday, 91.7 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers had received their first dose of a vaccine, 83.8 per cent had received their second dose, and 38.7 per cent had received a booster dose.
