Many businesses in downtown Ottawa remain closed today, as truckers and other protesters continue to occupy the capital.
Ottawa Police are advising residents to avoid travel into that area again today.
Thousands from across the country are attending the protest on Parliament Hill. It is day three of the freedom convoy.
That includes this one trucker from out West, who wasn’t identified, “This is not an anti-vaccine rally. This a freedom rally. This is about moms being able to watch their kids play hockey. This is about husbands being able to be present when their wives have birthing issues and they go into surgery, and this is about everyone just being able to choose.”
Police add that talks are ongoing to get the convoy out of the region safely.
They have reported “multiple cases” of disruptive, inappropriate and threatening behaviour over the weekend.
A few protesters were seen climbing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and defacing a Terry Fox statue.
The same trucker adds, “All I want is for this country to come together. I don’t care if you want to get boosted or wear a mask, you can do whatever you want, this is the land of the free. I just really want to see people back to where they can love one another choose to respect each others choices.”
