The court case involving a Saint John police officer charged with assault causing bodily harm has been delayed.
Const. Benaiah Sok was charged last December following an investigation conducted by the Fredericton Police Force.
Saint John’s police chief requested the investigation after a report of a member using excessive force while trying to make an arrest uptown in August.
Sok was scheduled to make his first appearance on the charge in Saint John provincial court on Monday morning.
Instead, his defense counsel requested a one-month adjournment as they are still waiting on disclosure related to the case.
The matter was adjourned by one month, with Sok now scheduled to return on March 7.
Sok, who joined the force in early 2019, was previously reassigned to administrative duties with no public contact pending the criminal proceedings.
The police force said a Police Act investigation will take place once those proceedings have concluded.
