The federal NDP is calling for an emergency debate on the trucker’s convoy in Ottawa.
Party leader Jagmeet Singh says the convoy is a direct threat to Canadian democracy.
“It’s clear that the stated intent of this convoy is to overthrow the government,” states Singh.
“It’s in their memorandum of understanding, it’s clear, they’re not hiding away from it. They are harassing citizens, they are threatening people, assaulting people.”
Singh adds there is interference from other countries, especially from the United States.
“There is clearly foreign interference, there are many examples of American politicians and other folks that are funding this direct action that is trying to undermine our democracy.”
Singh says the government has shown no leadership in ending the convoy.
