A Quispamsis construction company wants to build an active adult lifestyle community in the town.
KV Custom Homes is proposing to build 44 terrace homes on 12 acres of land along Pettingill Road near Heritage Way.
Owner Andrew McIntyre presented his proposal to Quispamsis town council on Tuesday night.
McIntyre told council that he feels those in the 50+ community are not being cared for currently.
“The homes nowadays aren’t being built for this. There are too many stairs, we don’t have the wide openings,” said McIntyre.
“We’ve got a lot of single-family homes. We have nowhere except for apartments for the aging community to move to.”
The proposal includes 15 buildings ranging from two to four units in size. The project, if approved, would be built in three phases.
While homeowners would maintain their own home and any part attached to it, a monthly “maintenance” fee of $150 to $175 would cover snow removal, lawn care and well maintenance.
“You get up in the morning, it snows, somebody else is already taking care of your driveway. You get up and you want to go drink your coffee, somebody is already out mowing your lawn,” said McIntyre.
Council has scheduled a public hearing for March 15, when residents will be able to have their say on the rezoning application.
