The flooding situation in the Sussex area appeared to be improving late Friday afternoon.
Officials said a temporary emergency shelter set up at Kingswood University was closed at 3 p.m.
In its latest update, the town said water levels peaked in Trout Creek around 1:30 p.m.
It also said the risk of further ice jams in the Parson’s Brook and Ward’s Creek areas is no longer an issue.
“The [Emergency Operations Group] believe we are entering a favourable forecast with an end to our rainfall warning,” said the update at 3 p.m.
Several streets remain closed, including Wallace Court, Jonah Court, Holman Avenue, and McLean Street. There are also partial closures on Maxwell Drive and Magnolia Avenue.
Officials said the process of re-energizing the underground power to Jonah Court has also begun.
Door-to-door inspections will take place by a qualified electrician to see if any circuits may have been impacted by water.
“This inspection process needs to be completed prior to reenergizing Jonah Court,” said the town’s latest update.
