The Nova Scotia community of Auburndale is in mourning after a woman and three children were killed in a house fire.
Police say the fire destroyed a home on Upper Branch Road in Auburndale, near Bridgewater, early Saturday morning.
A 36-year-old man and a four-year-old child escaped and were taken to hospital.
The remains of the four who died were found inside the home.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those in our community who are dealing with heartbreaking loss today.” – Bridgewater Mayor David Mitchell.
Jennifer McMullen, the principal of Bluenose Academy in Lunenburg, identified the woman, Kaylea Savory, as a teaching assistant at the school.
McMullen also named two of the children, Harley Savory in grade six and Hendrix Savory in grade three.
She says additional staff will be at the school Tuesday to support grief counselling efforts.
Police say the fire is not believed to be suspicious, but an investigation is underway.
