Another vaccine has been added to the list of approved suppliers for Canadians.
Health Canada has approved the first Canadian manufactured vaccine from a Quebec company called Medicago. Their vaccine, dubbed Covifenz, works the same as other vaccines, but instead of the using eggs, plants were used to create the virus like particles.
These proteins then act as dupes once injected into the body. So without the virus being there, the body sees the new inhabitants and launches an attack thus building a “memory” to attack similar invaders in the future.
30,000 patients were involved in the testing process and it was determined that a dosing schedule of 21 days after the first dose was best suited and achieved 71 per cent efficacy rates.
Across Canada, upwards of 84 per cent of people over the age of five have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
Health Canada has authorized Medicago’s Covifenz #CovidVaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 in adults 18 to 64 years of age. https://t.co/ghMKsA6BO4
