New Brunswick has taken a significant step towards its return to normalcy.
As of 12:01 a.m., it is no longer a requirement for organizations and businesses to enforce proof of vaccination for entry. This includes restaurants, gyms, entertainment centres and churches.
Premier Blaine Higgs introduced requirements for proof of vaccination in September 2021 amidst a spike in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations caused by the emergence of the Delta variant. However, at a COVID-19 update on Feb. 24, Higgs announced the province is now in a position where it can safely lift restrictions.
Similar steps to ease measures are underway in the neighbouring provinces of Nova Scotia and P.E.I., where their respective “vax pass” systems have also come to an end starting today.
For New Brunswick, today marks exactly two weeks until the remaining COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted.
