Effective Friday, Dr. John Dornan is the new President and CEO of Horizon Health.
Dr. Dornan has been serving on a interim basis since August 2021.
In a news release, Horizon Health’s board of directors said its pleased with the announcement.
“Dr. John Dornan is a collaborative leader and an excellent choice to lead Horizon as we work with our partners to improve access to care for the New Brunswickers we serve,”, said Jeff McAloon, Board Chair for Horizon Health Network. “As a physician who has worked across the province and having held several senior administrative and medical leadership positions, Dr. Dornan is uniquely skilled to lead the transformational changes that are required to improve our health care system”.
In a statement, the board said Dr. Dornan took immediate action after he was named interim CEO and started tackling the challenges facing the organization like improving wait times in the emergency department.
It notes how he led the organization “as it navigated its most serious wave of the COVID-19 pandemic which saw the highest number of virus related hospitalizations and health care staff being off work due to COVID-19 and its isolation requirements”.
The Horizon Health board of directors believes Dr. Dornan’s “experience, knowledge and collaborative nature” is what Horizon needs to lead the transformative change required to improve health care services and attract health care workers to the organization.
