A 21-year-old Fredericton man was charged with several offences, including three counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, after an incident on the city’s north side.
Fredericton police officers were called to a gas station on Cliffe Street around 10 p.m. Wednesday after reports of a suspicious man sleeping in a running vehicle.
Police say when officers tried to wake up the driver, he tried to take off. In the process, he rammed a police vehicle several times and a security vehicle.
Despite being warned to stop, he kept trying to leave and struck an officer.
Police broke a window to disable the vehicle and arrest the driver. A second police officer suffered a hand injury during the arrest.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of what police believe is crystal meth, along with drug paraphernalia and a knife.
