Fisherman missing off eastern NS
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre is searching for a missing fisherman off the province’s eastern shore.
JRCC Halifax says a fishing vessel, the Mucktown Girl, suffered a mechanical issue early Saturday morning, 90 nautical miles southeast of Canso.
A Coast Guard vessel, CCGS Jean Goodwill, was called to assist. It began towing the Mucktown Girl to a port in Mulgrave.
Saturday evening the tow equipment failed and the Mucktown Girl went adrift, the Jean Goodwill stayed nearby.
Early Sunday morning the Mucktown Girl began taking on water, and the crew abandoned ship into a life raft.
The Jean Goodwill rescued four fishermen, but one fell out of the raft during the rescue.
CCGS Spindrift, and a CH149 Cormorant Helo and a C130 Hercules Aircraft from 14 Wind Greenwood are assisting in the search.
