Mounties say a 45-year-old man from Saint John has died after an incident at Loch Alva Lake in the Musquash area.
Staff Sgt. Stephane Blanchard said officers were called to a possible drowning at the lake around 4 p.m. Saturday.
Blanchard said two gentlemen were out fishing on the lake when one of them fell overboard.
The second man jumped into the water and was eventually able to get the first man back into the boat, he said.
Blanchard said the victim was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The second man was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
In a statement, the Musquash Fire Department said it received a medical assistance call involving a cardiac arrest at the Loch Alva Dam at 4:08 p.m. Saturday.
“Both Musquash Fire stations immediately responded to the call and dispatched 11 Firefighters, 3 response units and 2 boats,” the department said in a news release.
The department said one man was unresponsive and given CPR, and another was suffering from hypothermia.
Blanchard said their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
