Correctional Service Canada is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak at Dorchester Penitentiary.
Seven inmates from the medium-security prison have tested positive for the virus.
Officials say they are closely monitoring the situation and measures are in place to minimize the spread of the virus.
The positive results are based on either rapid tests or PCR tests, but the number could change as more tests are conducted and lab-confirmed results are available.
CSC has been vaccinating inmates since January 2021, and all new admissions are being offered the vaccination, along with boosters.
Anyone entering the institutions is also being actively screened.
Inmate testing numbers are available on the Government of Canada website.
CSC says it communicates with inmates, staff, and stakeholders regularly to raise awareness of health and safety measures, including the importance of layers of protection such as vaccination, proper mask-wearing, frequent hand washing/sanitizing, and physical distancing.
