New Brunswick has picked up its second medal at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ont.
Para swimmer Jesse Canney won bronze in the men’s 100-metre freestyle para event on Monday evening.
It marks the second medal of the Games for Canney, who hails from Durham Bridge, near Fredericton.
He also earned a silver in the men’s 200-metre / 400-metre freestyle para event on Sunday.
The second day of competition saw the men’s soccer team advance straight to the semifinals after a 1-nil victory over Prince Edward Island. New Brunswick is 2-0 after defeating Manitoba 3-2 on Sunday night.
New Brunswick’s women’s rugby sevens squad made its inaugural debut at the Games on Monday night.
The rugby sevens lost 22-19 to Saskatchewan and 15-0 to Ontario. The women’s team plays twice on Tuesday against Alberta and Nova Scotia.
Basketball action saw the New Brunswick women’s team beat Yukon 131-29. They take on Nova Scotia on Tuesday morning, while the men’s team will face Saskatchewan.
The 1-1 women’s box lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday with a pair of games against Saskatchewan and Manitoba. They lost 7-2 to Québec on Monday.
In baseball, Team New Brunswick defeated Manitoba 9-7. The game against Alberta was delayed due to rain.
Women’s softball lost 5-1 against Alberta. They return to the field on Tuesday to play Québec.
The tennis squad lost 5-1 against Nova Scotia after a pair of rain delays. The team returns to the court on Tuesday afternoon against Manitoba.
In beach volleyball, New Brunswick’s women’s lost to British Columbia 2-0 and Ontario 2-1, while the men fell to Alberta and British Columbia by scores of 2-0. The women face Québec on Tuesday while the men battle Manitoba.
Wrestling hits the mats Tuesday as the New Brunswick women’s team takes on Québec and Saskatchewan, while the men’s team battles Manitoba and Québec.
There are also several swimming events taking place on Tuesday, including the women’s and men’s 4 x 100 m freestyle relay time final races.
