Another medal will be up for grabs for Team New Brunswick on Saturday at the Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ont.
Team New Brunswick and its athletes enter the last day of week one competition with 10 medals: one gold, two silver, and seven bronze.
The women’s beach volleyball team will face off against British Columbia on Saturday afternoon for a chance to earn another bronze medal.
Our men’s basketball team will play for fifth place against Quebec. The men defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 100-72 on Friday.
The women’s team, who lost 78-75 in overtime against Nova Scotia on Friday, will play Manitoba for seventh spot.
Team New Brunswick’s tennis players hit the courts against Newfoundland and Labrador for seventh place.
Several sporting events saw their competitions at this year’s Summer Games come to an end on Friday.
The soccer squad lost 6-1 to Alberta in the bronze medal match for a fourth-place finish.
Men’s beach volleyball finished competition with a ninth placing after defeating the Northwest Territories.
Women’s box lacrosse returns home with a seventh-place finish after defeating Saskatchewan 5-3. It is the first time women’s box lacrosse has been played at the Canada Games. Next week, men’s lacrosse will return after a 37-year absence.
In the swimming competition, Alex Hussey finished 11th and Xavier LeBouthillier finished 17th in the men’s 3000 metre open water swim. In the women’s event, Olivia Levesque finished 11th and Jordan LeRoy placed 16th.
Team New Brunswick placed 10th in the mixed team relay mix to complete their competition in the triathlon event.
Over in the mountain bike sprints, Emilie McIntyre finished 12th, Laurence Arseneau placed 15th, and Vanessa Thompson finished 17th. In the men’s event, Anthony Arseneau completed it in 17th, Noah Lydon finished in 20th, and Antoine Lacombe placed 25th.
New Brunswick’s baseball team lost to Manitoba 10-2 to finish the Canada Games in eighth place.
Competition will take a two-day break on Sunday and Monday before returning on Tuesday.
