Horizon Health Network has confirmed another death in an emergency department, this time at The Moncton Hospital.
In a statement, interim President and CEO Margaret Melanson clarified that the patient did not pass away in the emergency department (ED) waiting room.
“I can confirm a patient did present to the ED the evening of Friday, Aug. 12, was assessed and was closely monitored by the on-site triage nurse as well as an Emergency Department patient monitor while in the waiting room. The patient’s vital signs were taken at regular intervals,” Melanson wrote in the statement.
She adds the patient began exhibiting serious symptoms early the next morning on August 13. They were taken into the acute care area of the emergency department, where they later passed away while under the care of clinicians.
Melanson also confirmed in her statement that a patient went into cardiac arrest upon arrival at The Moncton Hospital’s emergency department yesterday morning.
This happened prior to triage, said Melanson.
“Critical care was administered and the patient was transported to the New Brunswick Heart Centre at Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital for further treatment,” she adds.
