An overnight fire has caused extensive damage to a home in Rothesay, according to fire officials.
The Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department was called to Anna Avenue just before 1 a.m. Thursday.
Division Chief Karen Trecartin said no one was home when the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.
“We believe it started in the basement and worked its way up through the home. The damage is quite extensive,” Trecartin said in an interview.
Trecartin said the fire was quickly extinguished, but crews remained on the scene for about five hours.
Firefighters from Hampton, Nauwigewauk and Simonds were also on the scene to provide mutual aid.
In a news release, the Canadian Red Cross said two adults were displaced by the fire. They received emergency lodging, food and clothing purchases while awaiting a damage appraisal and additional help through insurance.
Trecartin said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
