Federal funding for the New Brunswick Museum to store at the Area 506 waterfront container village.
The financial boost of $68,760 comes through the Rediscover Main Streets initiative which supports projects that aim to bring energy back to lively and important community hubs.
Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long made the announcement on behalf of Ginette Petitpas Taylor, the minister of Official Languages and minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
“Our main streets, downtowns and neighbourhoods are at the heart of our vibrant rural and urban communities here in Atlantic Canada. This innovative initiative will help breathe new life in the community, and encourage residents and visitors to come out and enjoy everything AREA 506 Container Village and the Saint John waterfront have to offer,” Petitpas Taylor said.
The support allowed the New Brunswick Museum to create a cultural tourism site in the AREA 506 Container Village in Saint John.
It’s thought having the museum’s presence there will help draw more visitors to the area and increase interest through new programs and exhibitions.
The Rediscover Main Streets initiative aims to help non-profit organizations team up to create new activities, develop marketing initiatives and promote events.
All of these activities are meant to encourage residents and visitors alike to rediscover what the region’s communities have to offer and drive more support for local businesses.
