Saint John police officers responded to a vehicle theft on Friday morning.
Officers were called to the 400 block of Tartan Street around 7:44 a.m. where they were told a grey 2017 Dodge Caravan had been stolen overnight.
It has the provincial license plate JPR-992.
Police believe the van may have been involved in other property-related crimes over the weekend using the fake license plate JMF-440.
Shortly after midnight on Saturday night, police were called to a break-in and assault at a home in the 500 block of Crown Street.
A man described as in his late 30s, between 5’6″ and 5’7″ tall, wearing a mask and black clothing allegedly forced his way into the home and assaulted a 56-year-old man with a weapon.
The victim took off looking for help while the suspect left on foot.
Police do not know the identity of the suspect and they have not been caught.
The victim was not seriously hurt and was treated at the scene.
Investigators with the Major Crime Unit are looking into this assault and want to hear from anyone who saw it or has video of the incident.
At lunchtime on Sunday, a patrol officer stopped a Honda Civic on Millidge Avenue after it was discovered the license plate did not match the vehicle.
It was later determined the car had been stolen from Fredericton.
A vehicle search resulted in the discovery of a substance police think is crystal meth.
A 24-year-old man allegedly gave police a false name at first and was later arrested for obstructing a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of a controlled substance.
A 20-year-old woman, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested for possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a controlled substance.
Both have future court dates.
