Loretta Lynn, the Kentucky coal miner’s daughter has died. She was 90. She died Tuesday at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.
Her honesty and unique place in country music were rewarded. She was the first woman ever named entertainer of the year at the genre’s two major awards shows, first by the Country Music Association in 1972 and then by the Academy of Country Music three years later. The list of awards and recognition continued throughout her career and she was deserving of them all.
Loretta’s massively influential career broke down barriers for women in country music and continues to influence the next generation. Kentucky native Carly Pearce wrote an entire song for her 29: Written in Stone album called, “Dear Miss Loretta”.
