Improvements to the Thorne Avenue railway crossing will begin Sunday.
The City of Saint John will begin construction on a centre median on Thorne Avenue to improve safety at the railway crossing located west of Bayside Drive.
The centre median will also improve the eastbound left turn lanes.
It will be constructed with temporary and re-useable rubber curbs, but the city and its partner New Brunswick Southern Railway plan to install permanent concrete in the spring of 2023.
During construction, Thorne Avenue will be reduced to one lane in both directions from November 6 until November 7 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. between Egbert Street and Bayside Drive.
