Thousands of New Brunswickers have exercised their right to vote ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
A spokesperson for Elections New Brunswick said more than 16,000 people had already voted as of late Saturday.
Paul Harpelle said more than 13,000 ballots were cast during the first day of advance voting on Saturday. The remaining 2,505 ballots were cast at one of the province’s 17 returning offices.
With roughly 230,000 electors eligible to vote in the local government elections on Monday, Nov. 28, Harpelle said voter turnout is at roughly seven per cent so far.
The second and final day of advance voting will take place on Monday, with polls open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Those who are voting in the elections should have received a voter information card in the mail.
You are encouraged to bring that with you to help speed up the process. Each card has a unique bar code which will help workers quickly find your name.
If you are not on the list, you can still cast a ballot, though you will have to show identification to be added to the list.
New Brunswickers can also vote by special ballot at one of the 17 returning offices around the province from Monday through Saturday, including election day.
