L’Arche Saint John is getting a financial boost for its Brighter Futures Fund.
On Monday, the organization announced it had received a $5,000 donation from Port Saint John.
“The Port’s commitment to community building and inclusion is a great source of support and joy for L’Arche Saint John,” Zoël Breau, executive director of L’Arche Saint John, said in a news release.
The Brighter Futures Fund was launched last year to sustain and grow L’Arche Saint John’s support to adults with intellectual disabilities.
Officials said the endowment fund was made possible through a $100,000 donation from Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception.
Donations to the fund are not spent but instead grow the endowment, according to L’Arche Saint John.
The annual income earned from the endowment will help the organization both sustain its operations and support future growth.
In a previous interview, L’Arche Saint John then-president Jim Kokocki said about 50 per cent of their annual operating expenses comes from the province, with the other half being fundraised by the organization.
Craig Bell Estabrooks, president and CEO of Port Saint John, said they are pleased to sponsor the fund.
“L’Arche provides programs that help build an inclusive future for Saint John and we thank them for that,” he said in the release.
