The seasonal Campobello Island ferry service will continue through the end of December.
Saint Croix MLA Kathy Bockus confirmed the news in a Facebook post this week.
“Some great news for Campobello residents,” Bockus said in the post.
In September, the province said it would continue subsidising the summer ferry “on a month-to-month basis.”
The ferry typically runs from June through September but has been operating continuously since June 2020 due to restrictions on border travel.
Campobello Island’s permanent transportation link, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Bridge, is connected to the mainland at Lubec, Maine.
That means a round trip to New Brunswick or other parts of Canada requires crossing the border four times.
Since January, the U.S. has required non-residents entering via land ports of entry and ferry terminals to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID.
The ferry will operate four days per week, weather permitting. You can find the current schedule on the East Coast Ferries Facebook page.
