A new poll shows New Brunswick’s Blaine Higgs is among the least popular premiers in our country.
The Angus Reid survey on approval ratings has Higgs pegged at an all-time low of 28 per cent.
He is only ahead of Manitoba’s Heather Stefanson, whose approval rating stands at 26 per cent.
According to the survey, recent decisions around bilingualism have affected Higgs’ approval rating.
“Higgs was criticized by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his handling of a review of the Official Languages Act, and criticized by parents for the decision to abolish French immersion in the province’s schools,” said the survey.
Meanwhile, Quebec’s Francois Legault is at the top with a 57 per cent approval rating, followed by Scott Moe of Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia’s Tim Houston.
Moe recently delivered $500 cheques to everyone in his province to battle inflation, while Legault recently won a new majority.
Houston has been battling Nova Scotia Power over rate hikes and balking at the federal government’s carbon tax which will come into effect on July 1.
The Angus Reid Institute conducted an online survey from Nov. 28 – Dec. 3, 2022 among a representative randomized sample of 5,030 Canadian adults who are members of Angus Reid Forum.
