The number of travellers crossing the border into the United States through New Brunswick continues to recover.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection processed more than 59,600 travellers in November through Calais, just across the border from St. Stephen.
While that number is still below pre-pandemic levels, it is considerably higher than in the past two years.
In fact, November’s numbers were three times higher than last year (18,800 travellers) and more than six times higher than the previous year (10,100 travellers).
Meanwhile, more than 1,200 travellers came through the Vanceboro crossing, near St, Croix, in November. That was almost four times higher than last year (342) and six times higher than in 2020 (208).
At Eastport, near Deer Island, more than 10,500 travellers were processed in November, up 30 per cent compared to 2021 numbers (8,000) and 90 per cent compared to the previous year (5,500).
More than 32,200 entered Maine through Houlton, near Houlton. That was two times higher than last year (14,800) and three times higher than the previous year (10,200).
