A family of four had to be pulled from a burning building on Bonaccord Street.
Moncton Fire arrived on the scene just after 7 am Monday morning to find a blaze in a first-floor apartment at the back.
Platoon Chief Brian McDonald says firefighters immediately began a search of the apartments.
An unconscious woman and three children, all under five years old were carried from the building by firefighters.
All of them had been overcome by smoke.
They were taken to the hospital, but there’s no word on their current condition.
The apartment where the fire originated had extensive damage, while the other units sustained only minor smoke damage.
McDonald says the structure was a residence renovated to include three apartments. All of the other tenants got out safely before firefighters arrived.
He adds, luckily the snow in the forecast didn’t create any major challenges for their crew while they battled the blaze and in getting the four people out.
Four of five Moncton fire stations responded to the scene to help, along with several ANB vehicles, RCMP, NB Power and Canadian Red Cross.
The Fire Marshall is on the scene investigating the cause of the fire.
