Mounties are looking for two suspects after a homeowner in the St. Stephen area was allegedly assaulted during a break-in.
Officers were called to a report of a break and enter at a home on Route 740 in Heathland around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.
In a news release on Thursday, police said the 77-year-old homeowner arrived at home to find two unknown men inside.
“The suspects damaged the interior of the home during the intrusion and stole a number of personal items before assaulting the homeowner and fleeing the scene,” said the release.
The suspects, who were reportedly armed with hand tools, are described as men who appeared to be in their 40s.
One suspect had long hair and the other was tall with a slender build, according to police.
They were travelling in a blue SUV, possibly a Jeep Liberty or similar model. It had a hitch attachment in the back and was missing a tire on the rear spare tire mount.
Police are looking to talk to anyone who was in the area at the time or who has surveillance video footage.
