New Brunswick health officials say flu activity is now considered “low” in the province.
Public Health reported eight lab-confirmed cases during the final full week of January.
That was down from a peak of more than 1,000 confirmed cases a week in early December.
Three more hospitalizations were reported by Public Health between Jan. 22 and 28, along with an additional death.
According to the weekly report, influenza activity at the national level is also low and continues to decline.
“Influenza activity is now at levels typically seen in late spring/early summer,” it said.
Since the start of the flu season in late August, there have been 4,305 cases reported, along with 869 hospitalizations and 63 deaths.
That is considerably higher than last season, which saw 92 hospitalizations, five deaths, and 442 cases.
During the 2018-19 flu season — the last full season before the pandemic — New Brunswick reported 3,008 lab-confirmed cases of influenza, 619 hospitalizations and 38 flu deaths.
