If you think you are paying too much in government taxes, a new report finds you are not alone.
The Fraser Institute has found a large discrepancy between what the average family pays in taxes versus what they believe they should.
In its latest report, the independent think-tank said the average Canadian family paid 45 per cent of its income to the federal, provincial and local governments in 2022.
Three-quarters of Atlantic Canadians surveyed by Leger said the support the average family paying 40 per cent or less of its income in total taxes.
That was slightly below the national average of 80 per cent, according to the Fraser Institute.
Meanwhile, those most likely to answer that they were getting poor or very poor value for their tax dollars were in Atlantic Canada, Alberta, and British Columbia.
Nearly half of Atlantic Canadian said they believe they are getting poor or very poor value from the services they receive from governments.
Only nine per cent believe they are getting good or great value, while less than a quarter said they believe they receive satisfactory value.
