An overview will be done to determine whether or not the Université de Moncton should change its name.
Two officials will be named by the Board of Governors, who will conduct the review.
A list of potential officials will be submitted to the Board by the executive team.
Denise Frenette, Vice-Chair of the Université de Moncton Board of Governors, says, “A decision as critical as whether or not to change the name of the University requires a rigorous process. That is why Board members need more information and evidence to make an informed decision. We will leave it to the officials to carry out their mandate with all the independence required.”
The objective of the mandate proposed by the Board of Governors will be to produce an informative and technical report that examines, among other things, the sociohistorical, political, social, reputational, legal, and economic aspects of changing the name of a university and the impact it would have on the Université de Moncton.
A report will then be compiled and submitted back to the Board by October of this year.
“Our university is listening to its communities. We do so in a transparent manner and with respect for our institutional values,” notes President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Denis Prud’homme.
