Two people have been arrested after allegedly fleeing from police in Saint John on Wednesday.
Police say an officer conducting radar on Bayside Drive “observed a violation” around 7:35 a.m.
They tried to stop a blue Chevrolet Aveo in the area of the One-Mile Interchange, but it kept on going.
“The officer did not pursue the vehicle because it was approaching a busy intersection,” police said in a news release on Thursday.
According to police, the vehicle ran through a red light at Seely Street and Mount Pleasant Avenue and was later found abandoned on Wright Street.
“Officers subsequently searched a nearby apartment and located the occupants of the vehicle hiding in a closet,” said the release.
The 22-year-old driver appeared in court Wednesday and was charged with flight from police, driving while prohibited and breach of a probation order. He is due back in court on Thursday for a bail hearing.
Police say the 20-year-old female passenger, who was arrested for theft and obstruction, was released on an undertaking to return to court in July.
No one was hurt during the incident, according to police.
