Power has been restored across southwestern New Brunswick following a large outage that spanned over two days.
The lights first went out at more than 16,000 homes and businesses in Charlotte County between late morning and early afternoon Monday.
As of 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, NB Power reported just one customer without electricity in the Charlotte Southwest region.
“We can confirm that this outage was caused by an equipment issue in the transmission system,” Dominique Couture, a spokesperson for NB Power, said in an email Tuesday morning.
As a result of the outage, Anglophone South School District schools in St. Stephen, Milltown and Lawrence Station were closed for the day on Tuesday.
The transmission issue also affected thousands of homes and businesses throughout southeastern Maine.
The Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative (EMEC) reported more than 10,000 customers still without power as of mid-morning Tuesday. Electricity was restored by around 11 a.m. Atlantic Time.
“The issue is a faulty switch in [NB Power’s] Oak Bay station along with a downed line on their line that feeds EMECs system,” the utility said on its website.
