The NB Health Coalition says the Higgs government continues to wreak havoc on the healthcare system.
It is denouncing the decision to pass a law allowing the private sector to perform surgeries outside of hospitals.
“We have no problem with medical clinics operating outside of hospitals,” said Bernadette Landry, co-chair of the Coalition. “However, they should be set up by the public sector and managed by the public sector. This is the only way to ensure that they do not cost taxpayers too much, that every citizen has access to them, and that their managers are accountable to the public”.
Meantime, the Coalition is also speaking out about plans by the Higgs government to eliminate positions of elected Healthy Authority Board representatives and to keep only those appointed by the government. “This is a direct attack on the democratic management of our health care system and the control that elected representatives had over its management,” said Landry. The Coalition is calling for all board members to be elected by the population of New Brunswick, including its CEO.
