Mounties say a St. George man has been charged in connection with two ongoing fraud investigations.
Investigators received two reports of people being defrauded of ‘significant’ amounts of money in a lottery scam.
The first report came from Ontario in March 2022, and the second from Alberta in August 2022.
A 48-year-old man from St. George was later identified as a person of interest in their investigation.
He appeared in court in January to face charges, but police only announced the details on Friday.
The man is charged with fraud over $5,000 and possession of stolen property over $5,000. He was released from custody and is due back in court on June 12.
RCMP said the Thunder Bay Police Service in Ontario and the Medicine Hat Police Service in Alberta assisted in the investigation.
Anyone who feels they have been a victim of this type of crime is encouraged to report it to their local police.
Victims should also notify their financial institution immediately if a fraudulent sale or transaction is suspected
