Special Olympics athletes from across the province are descending on Saint John this weekend.
The Canada Games Aquatic Centre will host the Special Olympics Swimming Competition on Saturday.
Officials say about 60 athletes from all over New Brunswick will be in the water as part of the event.
Jeff Cormier, regional coordinator for the Fundy Region, said he is looking forward to the competition.
“It brings me joy to know that I am a part of helping these athletes achieve their dreams,” said Cormier.
“It warms my heart to know that I can be a part of someone’s dream of being an athlete and a part of a team.”
The competition comes as Special Olympics marks its 55th anniversary this year.
Special Olympics Canada has optimized the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle through sport to improve the well-being of individuals with an intellectual disability.
