Athletes from across the Maritimes will descend on the Saint John region this weekend.
Organizers are putting the finishing touches on the annual East Coast Games.
It is described as Saint John’s major tournament weekend and Atlantic Canada’s largest annual sporting event.
Keith Raynes, co-chair of the event, said about 2,200 athletes have signed up.
“We’re very excited. Everybody is ready,” Raynes said in an interview ahead of the event.
The three-day multi-sport event began in 2015 and has continued to expand ever since.
What started as seven games has grown to 20 this year, including some new additions.
“We have disc golf, axe throwing, trail running, rock climbing and table tennis,” said Raynes.
Events are taking place throughout the Saint John region, including in Quispamsis, Rothesay and Grand Bay-Westfield.
It all begins on Friday afternoon and continues through late Sunday afternoon.
