The 74th annual Shediac Lobster Festival kicked off over the weekend.
Events included a lobster eating contest, entertainment and the second annual five and ten-kilometre Claw Run.
President Pascal Haché expects even more as activities continue throughout the week, “In the past, we’ve seen 30,000 to 50,000. In recent years, we’re in the 35,000 to 40,000 range, that’s the usual average.”
Heavy rain cancelled events on Monday, but festivities are expected to be rescheduled.
Campbell Amusements with games and rides open tomorrow.
In the past, the festival used to feature the world’s longest lobster roll, but Haché says a few years ago they switched that up, and created La Grand Table instead, “So basically, you can sit up to 1000 people on Main Street. It’s one big long table and we’re serving a full traditional lobster, with a full-size lobster, and your salad. Basically, everybody sits down on Main Street as a community meal.”
La Grande Table will be held on July 9th, to help close out the Festival. A lobster eating contest will also be featured as one of the closing events.
All of the activities can be found on the Shediac Lobster Festival website.
“There’s so much going on. Check out our events. There are some that are free events, there are some events for the family, and there’s pretty much something for everyone. We hope to see everybody here this week,” Haché says.
