Freedom Convoy rolls into Dryden, February 2022.
One of the organizers of last year’s trucker protest is looking for the public’s help with her legal bills.
A crowdfunding campaign set up by the group, the Democracy Fund, aims to raise at least $300 thousand for Tamara Lich.
Lich faces several charges connected to the protest in Ottawa.
Her trial is scheduled to begin in September.
An email being circulated and signed by Lich says the funds are needed to hire a top legal team.
The email indicates high-profile Ottawa lawyer Lawrence Greenspon has been hired.
“If you can help me chip in to cover the cost of my lawyers, I know we’ll be able to defend against the charges. I’ve got one of the best lawyers in Ottawa on my side – Lawrence Greenspon, who is used to taking very complex and very serious cases. I have great confidence in him and his legal team. I just can’t afford them on my own. That’s why I need your help,” states the email.
The Democracy Fund website indicates that 90 per cent of its goal has already been reached.
